Erma married Bill Bombeck in August 1949. She settled into her new life as a housewife in Kettering, Ohio. Her first column, started in 1952, focused on things like housework and new cleaning products. She gave up her career when her daughter, Betsy was born. Two more children, Andrew and Matt, followed.
